My Favorite Taco Seasoning

For years my family has made our own taco seasoning—it’s super easy, and one batch will last for several meals! The recipe we use is not our own, but unfortunately it was written on an index card so I have no idea where we got it from. Thanks for inventing this masterpiece of spice, whoever you are! 😉

Let the flavor begin!

To make this you’ll need:

  • 1/4 c. + 1 TBSP chili powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes (cut this in half if you’re not a spicy kinda person 🙂 )
  • 1 1/4 tsp. oregano
  • 2 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 2 TBSP + 1 1/2 tsp. cumin
  • 1 TBSP + 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 TBSP + 2 tsp. black pepper

Dump all the ingredients above into a small plastic container, pop the lid on tightly, and shake the daylights out of it. Add 1-2 TBSP (depending on your preferred spice level) of your spicy party to your taco meat, along with 1/2 cup of water. Simmer on medium-low heat until the water is absorbed—and enjoy those tacos! 🌮 😀

Mixing 1/2 cup of cooked lentils into pound of taco meat also makes a tasty, healthy addition to taco night! You’ll want to toss in a bit more seasoning if you choose to add the lentils; it’ll help keep that flavor going strong.
