Tired of buying bundle after bundle of green onions to make a recipe, only to have the unused portions rot? π¦ I’ve got good news for you! This next bundle of onions you buy will be the last one!
First, take a few store-bought green onions and cut the white bulb ends off.

Find a small jar or glass (old baby food containers work amazingly well), and set the onions upright in it like so…

Add a bit of water…

And place in a sunny windowsill.
In just 1-2 days, you’ll be able to see new green growth! π Depending on how much sunlight you have, they will continue to grow very rapidly. Change out their water about every other day.

Once they’re about 4-5 in. long, you can take them out and plant them in a container in your windowsill! (It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, I’ve even used an old mug. π )

Whenever you need green onions again, just reach over, snip some off, and voila! Can’t get any fresher than that. π Plus they’ll keep growing back!
See what other kinds of edible houseplants you can grow this winter! π

Such a great idea! I have to try it. I always feel bad about wasting food.
