This weekend, I have begun a journey. A journey of finding the perfect homemade granola bar. This little recipe I’ll be sharing with you today is BY FAR better than any store-bought granola bar I’ve ever had!
The recipe is by Jen from simplegreensmoothies.com, and it is awesome!

I made several changes to this recipe:
- I only added 1/2 cup of maple syrup instead of the seemingly insane amount of 1 cup. (I was making a double batch.) This turned out to not be the best idea…they were kinda crumbly. Definitely would not recommend doing that.
- I used vegetable oil instead of coconut oil.
- I didn’t have chia seeds–so I used rice crispy cereal instead, lol! Hey, it sounded good! π
- Finally, I added one of my favorite secret ingredients…chocolate chips, of course!
To be honest, I was a little worried I wasn’t going to like these. They have peanut butter in them…and I am NOT a peanut butter fan. But to my relief, I absolutely loved them! π Everyone else did too, and I will definitely be making these again.

I will probably tweak the recipe a bit more next time; maybe I’ll use honey instead of crazy expensive maple syrup. And come to think of it, dried cherries sound nice… π
Have you ever made homemade granola bars before? Let me know in the comments!
Happy healthy breakfasting! π
