How to Make Your Own Greens Powder

Greens powders are such a convenient, wonderful way to sneak a little extra nutrition into smoothies, soups, chilis–you name it! But instead of buying some from a health food store, you can make your own out of the greens in your garden! πŸ™‚ Here’s how I did it.

Invasion of the kale!

First, I washed and dried my greens (a salad spinner is a life-saver when it comes to drying πŸ˜‰ ). I used kale this time since we have quite an overabundance.

Next, I cut the big chewy stems out, and chopped the leaves into smaller pieces with a kitchen scissors.

Then I tossed them into the dehydrator! It took roughly 8 hours at 114 degrees F for them to fully dry. If you don’t have a dehydrator, I’m sure this could be done in an oven at the lowest setting. πŸ™‚

This step was so much fun

Once they were dry, I dumped ’em in the food processor and let her rip! It didn’t make a perfectly smooth powder, as you can see, but I was pretty happy with it.

I carefully funneled them into a mason jar…

Then I labeled it and burst out laughing thinking about how all that kale turned into such a tiny amount of powder! It really is amazing how small things get when you dehydrate them and grind them up.

Hope you guys have fun making your own green powders! ❀ Let me know how it goes for you! If you’re looking for more ways to use up all those extra greens in your garden, check out this post to find out how to make leafy green chips!

Happy experimenting! πŸ˜€
